Advancing Property

Management

A central focus of Dean Weidner’s career was elevating professionalism within the property management industry. He believed that long-term success required not only strong operations but also a well-educated and highly skilled talent pipeline.

To support this vision, Dean invested in six four-year public universities, helping to establish and expand industry-focused academic programs. His contributions supported curriculum development, scholarship funding, and the creation of additional classroom space, ensuring students had access to cutting-edge, career-oriented education.

Mr. Weidner supported leading programs at Oklahoma State University, University of Wisconsin–Stout, Ball State University, University of Alaska Anchorage, MacEwan University, and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.

In total, he donated $23.35M to higher education institutions, helping to attract, develop, and prepare the next generation of professionals while elevating the standards of the property management industry as a whole.

Developing the

Next Generation of Leaders

As Weidner Apartment Homes continued to grow, Dean recognized the need to expand and strengthen the industry’s employment base across both management and maintenance roles. In response, he established the company’s Manager-in-Training (MIT) and Service Technician-in-Training (SIT) programs, as well as a summer internship program.

The seasonal internship opportunity gives young professionals a hands-on preview of the industry and helped interns understand if property management was the right path for them. The 6- to 12-month SIT and MIT apprenticeship programs are unique within the industry and are designed to accelerate the development of entry-level associates into skilled professionals and future leaders. Through structured training, hands-on experience, and mentorship, participants gain the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in their careers.

Under Dean’s leadership, these programs became a direct extension of the company’s broader commitment to giving back to the industry, investing in students, and cultivating long-term leadership from within.

A Passion for

Growth and Learning

Sometimes, I am asked what the greatest reward for me is in this business. My answer is simply seeing our associates ‘get it.’ At the beginning of a career, many are mystified by our business, but once they fully understand the purpose and see the results of what we do… I see a smile on their face, a twinkle in their eye, and through their excitement, I can tell they truly get it. That’s the thrilling part for me.
