Community
Building
A Commitment to
Long-term Growth
Community building was a defining pillar of Dean Weidner’s work and remains a core value of Weidner Apartment Homes. In every market he entered, he sought not only to provide housing, but to meaningfully contribute to the long-term vitality and growth of the surrounding community.
Dean consistently invested in initiatives that strengthened local infrastructure and expanded access to essential services. For example, in 2026, he donated nearly $17.8M to North Central Washington after being an active housing provider in the region for nearly 15 years, helping support the Wenatchee YMCA and the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center. He also maintained a longstanding partnership with United Way of Alaska, providing ongoing financial support to advance programs that deliver critical services to Alaskan communities.
Expanding Access
Through Housing
A key component of his community building philosophy was expanding access to quality housing. Dean prioritized developing new properties in secondary and tertiary markets where housing supply was limited. Throughout his career, he contributed to the construction of nearly 10,000 apartment homes, helping to meet demand and support economic growth across diverse regions.
Investing in
Colorado Springs
Dean maintained a deep and enduring commitment to Colorado Springs, where he had been actively investing since 1993.
In 2021, Weidner Apartment Homes delivered Weidner Field, an 8,000-seat stadium and event center in downtown Colorado Springs. This $50M development serves as the home of the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and was designed to create a central gathering place for residents to connect and experience sports, entertainment, and community events.
As part of the stadium, Weidner developed a futuristic sculpture of a steel sphere surrounded by two rings, elevated 20 feet in the air. This art piece serves as an iconic landmark to downtown and a form of Dean’s Love Note to his hometown.
When we commissioned the Epicenter sculpture at the entrance to Weidner Field, we had a vision of enhancing Colorado Springs’ reputation as a leader in Olympic, professional, collegiate, and amateur sports. As a community builder for nearly 50 years, I believe that in its purest form, sport has a unique power to unite and build community. Through that lens, we made the strategic decision to deepen our commitment to the football club and the city of Colorado Springs with this significant investment into the franchise.
- DEAN WEIDNER
In February 2025, Weidner Apartment Homes became the sole owner of the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, transitioning from its prior role as a minority investor alongside the Ragain family. Under this new leadership, the organization remains committed to building on the club’s strong legacy, strengthening its position within the USL, and delivering exceptional experiences for fans and the broader community.

Creating Meaningful
Residence Experiences
Beyond large-scale investments, Dean was equally focused on the day-to-day resident experience. He believed that apartments should be more than places to live; they should be homes where residents feel valued, supported, and connected.
This philosophy inspired the creation of Weidner’s Love Notes program, influenced by the book For the Love of Cities: A Love Affair Between People and Their Places by Peter Kageyama. Through this initiative, Weidner associates are given dedicated resources to create small, meaningful gestures, “Love Notes,” that surprise and delight residents.
These moments are designed to foster a deeper sense of belonging, strengthen community connections, and cultivate pride in the places residents call home. At its core, the program reflects Dean’s belief that strong communities are built not only through physical spaces but through the relationships and experiences that bring people together.
